What is the EDGE Zero Carbon Pledge?
With COP26 fast approaching, many civil society and industry organizations are creating pledges for different sectors to reach Carbon Zero before 2050. Many global corporations are making commitments around how they will reach net zero carbon for new buildings by 2030 and all buildings by 2050. The EDGE Zero Carbon Pledge has been designed for leading developing country organizations to demonstrate a growing supply of net zero carbon or net zero carbon ready buildings for financiers to support. The EDGE Zero Carbon Pledge is generally focused local or regional companies from developing countries. They make quantified, near term pledges which demonstrate leadership among their peers and deep green investment pipeline opportunities to local and international financiers.
How do I get involved in the EDGE Zero Carbon Pledge?
To take the Zero Carbon Pledge, a developer commits a portion or all of their portfolio to being 100% Zero Carbon by a certain date – between 2030 and 2050, and defines the number of certified square meters. EDGE Advanced certification (Zero Carbon Ready) is also an option. Financial institutions can also participate by committing a percentage of their portfolio to be certified EDGE Net Zero Carbon (or equivalent) or EDGE Advanced (40% energy savings) by a certain date. They will also make a statement about their investments in green buildings.
