This is a virtual webinar taking place as part of the COP29 Buildings and Cooling Pavilion programme.
Join us for the launch of the Global Framework for Action on Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP) in Construction, a transformative initiative that leverages the power of public procurement to drive demand for near-zero emission and resilient buildings (NZERBs). As the construction sector already accounts for nearly 50% of global material consumption and 37% of global greenhouse gas emissions, its impact will only intensify as 50% of the buildings projected for 2050 are still yet to be built.
Developed through extensive consultation with over 200 global experts, this framework equips governments with actionable strategies to integrate circular economy principles into procurement practices—impacting decisions across the entire lifecycle of buildings, from planning and design to construction and deconstruction. Public procurement, which can influence up to 30% of GDP in many countries, and with approximately 50% of public procurement expenditures directed at buildings and infrastructure, offers a powerful mechanism for driving sustainable construction. By aligning procurement policies with international frameworks like the Paris Agreement and the Buildings Breakthrough it will empower governments to lead by example and accelerate the transition to low-carbon, resilient buildings.
Be part of this milestone event as we unveil a roadmap that positions SPP as a catalyst for transforming the construction sector, reducing emissions, and helping governments meet their climate commitments.
