As the world accelerates its efforts to achieve a decarbonised society, there is a growing interest in how cities, as the foundation for society and economy, are tackling climate change.
This forum, organized by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment, in collaboration with UNFCCC, ICLEI and IGES aims to boost the work done by cities in their quest for net zero emissions. To this end, more than 20 leaders of local and regional governments across the world will take the floor in sharing their efforts on climate neutrality commitments by 2050 and 2030. Japanese Minister of Environment and Climate Change Koizumi, US Special Climate Envoy John Kerry, UNFCCC Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa, Chilean High-Level Champion Gonzalo Munoz, UNHabitat Deputy Executive Director Viktor Kissob and UK COP26 Ambassador to Asia Pacific Ken O'Flaherty will be among high-level speakers on the agenda.
