AWC partners in the development of sound policies, codes, and regulations that allow for the appropriate and responsible manufacture and use of wood products in the built environment.
The organization represents an industry that provides more than 450,000 men and women in the United States with family-wage jobs. It is a leader in developing engineering data, technology, and standards for wood products. Committed to ensuring the safe and efficient application of these materials, the organization also promotes education around wood design, green building policy, and resiliency. It maintains an active presence in support of industry interests and advocates for balanced policies affecting wood products.
ACTIVITY RELATED TO LOW GHG AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND RESILIENT BUILDINGS
AWC is deeply involved in international building code development and was one of the leading organizations that allowed for the inclusion of tall mass timber buildings in the 2021 IBC. One of the focuses of AWC’s Strategic Plan is supporting the U.S. wood products industry in measuring the embodied carbon of their products and in engaging in standards-setting forums, both domestically and internationally. The Markets & Sustainability team is an international leader in wood products sustainability data collection and reporting.
