Founded in 2004 with the mission to greatly reduce deaths, injuries and economic losses caused by housing and school collapses due to earthquakes and typhoons in emerging nations. We are the global expert on affordable, disaster-resilient housing in emerging markets.  We were the first organization to strengthen damaged low-rise masonry homes in emerging contexts at scale, proving that it can be done affordably and safely. Houses built or retrofit (strengthened) with our inputs have withstood subsequent earthquakes and typhoons in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Haiti. 

Build Change works with homeowners, governments, multilateral institutions, and the private sector to strengthen vulnerable buildings and tear down financial, cultural, and technological barriers to safe construction at scale. Build Change partners with local government, civil society, and financial institutions, leveraging subsidies and loans made available for Resilient Housing and building their capacity to implement Resilient Housing programs.
