MAIN GOALS - GENERAL ACTIVITIES - FIELD OF EXPERTISES

The Energy Technologies Area (ETA) research at LBNL, is currently focused on urgently addressing climate change problems by developing energy-efficient innovations, including addressing inequity through energy justice. ETA is organized into four research Divisions, which are dedicated to science, host expertise and facilities, and foster partnership to bring climate change solutions to the world:

  • Decarbonization via integrated energy systems.
  • Storage: The key to climate solutions
  • Advancing water-energy systems
  • Energy equity & environmental justice
  • Energy efficiency
  • Innovation economy

ACTIVITY RELATED TO LOW GHG AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND RESILIENT BUILDINGS

LBNL has contributed to a wide variety of national and international research on climate actions with a focus on buildings (residential and commercial) and the construction sector. Our future work includes but is not limit to: Achieve a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030; Leadership in Net Zero World Action Center, that will provide strategies to accelerate global energy decarbonization; The use of algorithms for smart and sustainable mobility solutions; Software development for cities to slash energy use and reduce carbon dioxide emissions; Contribution to chapters on industry and mitigation pathways of latest IPCC report; etc
