MAIN GOALS - GENERAL ACTIVITIES - FIELD OF EXPERTISES

UN-Habitat is the coordinating agency within the United Nations System for human settlement activities, the focal point for the monitoring, evaluation and implementation of the Habitat Agenda, as well as the task manager of the human settlements chapter of Agenda 21. UN Habitat, in collaboration with governments, is also responsible for promoting and consolidating collaboration with all partners, including local authorities and private and non-governmental organizations on the implementation of the Habitat Agenda and the Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in particular, Goal 11 of “Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”, with emphasis on Target 11.1 “[b]y 2030, ensure access for all to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services and upgrade slums” and Target 11.c “to support least developed countries, including through financial and technical assistance, in building sustainable and resilient buildings utilizing local materials”.
