According to the GlobalABC's Global Status Report for Buildings and Construction 2020, The building sector exhibits massive untapped potential for climate mitigation and adaptation: buildings accounted for the largest share of energy-related CO2 emissions (38 percent) in 2019. With rising incomes, urbanization, and population growth, the built surface is set to double by 2060. Most new buildings are highly inefficient when it comes to energy consumption. Given the current average lifetime of a building (30 to 80 years), there is an enormous risk of high-carbon lock in. Policy, tax, or other financial incentives can trigger investments in energy efficient construction and renovation and contribute to buildings’ resilience.
This webinar, organised by the NDC Partnership with the participation of GlobalABC, GIZ, PEEB and Viet Nam’s Ministry of Construction/Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, will highlight global examples of NDC work in building efficiency and will discuss best practices for effective NDC building targets.
