The French Development Agency (AFD) engages in financing and support of infrastructure projects, participation in sectoral dialogue / energy transition and capacity building in AFD intervention countries. AFD has 3 objectives in the field of energy: Financing and supporting renewable energies and energy efficiency; reducing the energy gap and improving access in rural and peri-urban areas; and securing and strengthening energy systems. Jointly with the GIZ, the French Ministry of Environment, Energy and Sea (MEEM) and the French Global Fund for Environment (FFEM), AFD launched the 'Program for Energy Efficiency in Buildings' during COP22. This program aims at contributing to the creation of a mechanism to support energy efficiency in buildings, by providing technical assistance to governmental bodies, ESCOs, banks and project sponsors and financing solutions tailored to EEB in African and Mediterranean countries, with the objective of supporting energy efficiency finance in general and national strategies in particular in this field.
