Governments and stakeholders across the world are beginning to respond to the message and take action towards a decarbonisation of their buildings sector. For instance, as part of the 2018 Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) and at the initiative of the GlobalABC, six GlobalABC member countries (Argentina, France, Germany, Mexico, Morocco, and Switzerland) signed the Global Call for Low Carbon, Energy Efficient, and Resilient buildings to, among others develop national strategies for buildings and construction in line with the Paris Agreement Goals. Furthermore, multiple businesses, cities, and regions signed up to the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment by the World Green Building Council which challenges companies, cities, states and regions to reach net-zero operating emissions in their portfolios by 2030, and to advocate for all buildings to be net-zero in operation by 2050. And countries, private sector, and financial institutions have signed up to the Zero Carbon Buildings for All initiative as part of the UN Secretary General’s Climate Summit in 2019.
