What are GlobalABC Hubs and Action Groups?
GlobalABC Hubs and Action Groups serve as channels for members and partners to engage, address barriers, and drive action towards a zero-emission, efficient, and resilient buildings and construction sector for all. Hubs are initiated and driven by members.
GlobalABC Hubs and Action Groups define their own work programmes, modes of operation, and resource mobilisation and allocation, which should align with GlobalABC’s mission, vision, objectives, and targets. They address one or several of the GlobalABC programme objectives and targets and contribute to the GlobalABC flagship products and activities.
To date, the GlobalABC has 7 Hubs and 3 Action Groups:
- Adaptation Hub
- Clean Heat Forum
- Data Hub
- Finance Hub
- Market Transformation Hub
- Materials Hub
- Sufficiency Hub
- Higher Education Institutions Action Group
- Passive Cooling Action Group
- Subnational Action Group
Each Hub or Action Group has 1 to 3 co-leads who, where possible, represent different constituencies (e.g., country, NGO, or private sector) and come from different world regions. Each Hub determines which one of its co-leads could serve on the GlobalABC Steering Committee. A maximum of 8 hubs are allocated a seat on the Steering committee.
Technical Coordination Group
The Technical Coordination Group (TCG) serves as the platform for communication between the Hubs and Action Groups to share progress and information, align efforts, and facilitate synergies, collaboration, and cross-pollination of ideas. Managed by the GlobalABC Secretariat and composed of all the co-leads of the Hubs and Action Groups, the TCG aims to enhance collaboration, streamline efforts, and ensure effective implementation of the GlobalABC's missions and targets.
The TCG should attend at least 2 coordination calls per year with the GlobalABC Secretariat and other Hub co-leads, to foster collaboration, share best practices, and align efforts within the Hubs and Action Groups.
Who can join the Hubs and Action Groups?
Upon joining the GlobalABC, members can choose which Hub(s) and/or Action Group(s) they wish to participate in by informing the Secretariat. Every GlobalABC member is expected to actively participate in at least one Hub or Action Group, and can choose to engage in more, according to their priorities and expertise.
Exceptionally, Hubs and Action Groups can also involve non-member entities that can provide valuable expertise or experience for the delivery of their work.
How to form a new Hub or Action Group?
If a group of GlobalABC members wish to work together under the GlobalABC umbrella to address a new issue in the buildings and construction sector, they may form an Action Group upon approval by the Steering Committee.
When a new Action Group is approved by the Steering Committee, its work plan and outputs will be reviewed by the Technical Coordination Group and reported to the Steering Committee on an annual basis.
A new Action Group needs to operate successfully for at least one year to be eligible to become a Hub. It will be at the discretion of the Steering Committee whether and when an Action Group becomes a Hub and possibly assumes one of the eight seats for Hubs on the Steering Committee.
However, a maximum of eight seats on the Steering Committee still applies. If more than eight hubs exist, voting by the Technical Coordination Group will determine which Hubs sit on the Steering Committee.
