Bio-Based Materials Hub: Exploring Systems to Scale Climate Neutral Materials in the Built Environment
| 10:50-11:30 CET

This is one of the Hubs and Action Groups Breakout Sessions, taking place on Day 2 of 2025 GlobalABC Annual Assembly. Registration link will be shared soon.

Venue: Room 3, Deutsches Hygiene-Museum, Dresden, Germany

In this interactive session, we will explore the infrastructures, networks, and interdependencies needed to scale climate neutral materials in the built environment. Participants will work in material-specific groups to develop strategies for scaling materials such as timber, grass, fungi, earth, aquaculture and agricultural by products, green steel, and near-zero cement. Guided through stakeholder and value chain mapping, participants will incubate concepts and methods to support greater in-country implementation and on-the-ground action for natural and low-carbon materials. The session will draw on the expertise of the Action Group’s leads and collaborators in design futures, engineering, and architecture, synthesizing key challenges, opportunities, barriers, and pathways for growth across different climate-neutral materials. The insights generated will contribute to future initiatives, publications, and advocacy efforts of the Action Group.
