Description
We know that to keep 1.5 alive, we must halve global emissions by 2030. International collaboration is vital to achieve this. Last year at COP26, 45 countries committed to the Breakthrough Agenda - an unprecedented worldwide plan to dramatically speed up the development and deployment of clean technologies. Covering five sectors that together represent at least 50% of emissions, the Breakthrough Agenda aims to make clean technologies the most accessible, affordable and attractive option by 2030.
The International Energy Agency (IEA), International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the UNFCCC High Level Champions co-authored the Breakthrough Agenda Report which reviews progress towards the Breakthrough goals annually. This report makes a series of recommendations which will help us to meet these goals. Now is the time to turn these recommendations into actions.
This event hosted by the COP26 President will demonstrate the commitment that countries have to acting on the report recommendations, as well as celebrate new endorsements of the Breakthrough Agenda. It will give Ministers the opportunity to share how they will be delivering on these plans and the benefits they will bring. Industry leaders in the Breakthrough Agenda sectors explain how the Breakthrough Agenda will change the way they collaborate and accelerate the low carbon transition. In this event, Stéphane Crouzat, French Climate Ambassador, will make a call to action for the Buildings Breakthrough.
