| 10:00-10:30 CET

This is one of the Hubs and Action Groups Breakout Sessions, taking place on Day 2 of 2025 GlobalABC Annual Assembly. Registration link will be shared soon.

Venue: Room 5, Deutsches Hygiene-Museum, Dresden, Germany

In Dresden, the location of the Annual Assembly of GlobalABC in 2025, a bridge, crossing the river Elbe, that divides the city, the Carola Bridge, collapsed on 11 September 2024 at 2.59 o´clock in the morning.

The main cause was corrosion damage to steel elements that occurred during the bridge's construction. In conjunction with material fatigue caused by the daily traffic load over the past decades, the corrosion damage led to the sudden collapse of the bridge. Prof. Steffen Marx from the Institute of Concrete Structures at TU Dresden will present his analysis on the causes of the collapse of the Carola Bridge and the lessons learned.
