In 2021 the Aviation Industry took a landmark decision to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. This cannot be achieved without radically transforming the energy supply for aviation, replacing fossil jet fuel with Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs) and new hydrogen and battery-electric propulsion aircraft. To reach the required volumes of SAF in 2050, covering up to 75% of energy demand, immediate, systemic, and large-scale action is needed to unlock production and infrastructure scale-up. Leaders agreed a breakthrough outcome of 10% SAF by 2030 to meet this need, and will come together at COP26 to highlight bold action taken thus far, and identify crucial next steps across the value chain to reach this ambitious target.
