Description
In many communities buildings represent a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions—globally representing approximately 40 percent of energy related emissions. Initiatives are underway to reduce these impacts—initially focused on the energy used during the operations phase. However, as buildings approach net-zero energy and carbon in their operations, the embodied carbon in the materials and construction process used become increasingly important. A holistic approach looking across the entire life cycle of a building is essential to reduce the climate impacts of the built environment. However, until recently, the data and tools necessary for such a holistic approach have been lacking. This panel of representatives from across the building value chain will examine the policies, practices, data, and tools necessary to accelerate the decarbonisation of the built environnent.
