Description
Last year at the COP26, over $130 trillion of capital was committed to transforming the economy for net zero through the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ). To achieve the ambitious goals, financial institutions must leverage the financing and investing decisions to influence the industries and address the financed emissions across their portfolios, including 40% of global carbon emissions contributed by the built environment.
This thematic session will showcase leadership and best practices across actors in the finance sector in transitioning to net zero buildings, highlight the importance of data collection and taking a whole life carbon approach to financial stakeholders and the implications on property valuations, alongside demonstrating outstanding areas of action and identifying future priorities.
In this session, IIGCC and WBCSD will showcase the crucial role of the private finance sector in transitioning to net zero buildings, the practical steps investors need to take to meet their targets and highlight the outstanding areas for action.
The session will stress the critical role of finance in supporting the BE transformation (the 40%), expressed in visible public statements/announcements of Finance Day; highlight the importance of integrating (whole life) carbon assessment into valuation and risk assessment; and show how the finance sector can integrate carbon performance into decision-making, and what is needed from the whole sector to enable that (e.g., data, benchmarks, etc.).
