Description:
Around the world, the real estate industry has increasingly embraced sustainable finance instruments such as green loans and green bonds, recognising their potential to drive decarbonisation efforts and support sustainable development projects.
And yet there remains a serious implementation gap between ensuring enough finance reaches projects and initiatives with genuine potential to tackle emissions from the sector, and ensuring a more resilient built world.
According to the International Finance Corporation, green buildings represent a significant low-carbon investment opportunity — $24.7 trillion by 2030 — and the deployment of technologies that could reverse projected emissions growth from construction value chains alone will require $3.5 trillion in global investment between 2022 and 2035.
Accelerated climate action will therefore require a significant commitment and increase of various forms of finance flowing to the right projects, with alignment across industry, and collaboration between key stakeholders.
This session will explore the critical role of private finance in deploying the solutions, projects and scale of action necessary to support the transition to a decarbonised built environment.
