Session Description
This session addresses the world’s fifth largest source of carbon emissions: the healthcare sector. Demographic trends–particularly ageing populations–are placing increasing pressure on the healthcare systems of many countries, including Brazil. Climate change is further exacerbating healthcare challenges particularly for older and other vulnerable groups.
The discussion will explore scalable solutions illustrating how the healthcare sector can contribute to climate mitigation while enhancing health outcomes through innovative service delivery models and comprehensive design approaches that impact health and well-being.
Example projects from the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, and the Middle East will demonstrate how these outcomes can be achieved in practice and inform policy. This session will also consider how our buildings impact our health and will highlight the Global Pledge on Healthy Indoor Air, launched at the UN General Assembly in September.
