The Global Concrete and Cement Association (GCCA), in collaboration with a wide stakeholder group including the Clean Energy Ministerial Industrial Decarbonisation Initiative, have developed a low carbon rating system.  It utilises the well-established EPD system. It is a global system that can be adapted to accommodate local EPD custom and practice whilst retaining global consistency.   Implementation is underway with German adoption in January 2025, UK including it public consultation and India Government Bureau of Energy Efficiency working alongside the building value chain and GCCA India in preparation for adoption.

The session will cover the key decisions made in developing the framework, explain the process of adoption and implementation and will be of interest to all those involved in low carbon procurement of materials and projects. The rating system is also of use to international clients, developers, designers and contractors who need to report their scope 3 emissions.
