Session Description: The event, organised by the Subnationals Action Group of the GlobalABC, will emphasise the role of local governments in the just transition towards a decarbonised and resilient built environment. It will highlight the need for effective multilevel governance and well-coordinated multilevel action to accelerate local climate solutions in the buildings and construction sector. The event will convene national and subnational governments, city networks and NGOs along with private sector representatives to promote knowledge exchange and encourage concerted action among built environment stakeholders.
The Subnationals Action Group and of the GlobalaABC and the Subnational Climate Action Leaders Exchange (SCALE), funded by the US State Department, will announce their new partnership and its objectives in the context of SCALE’s upcoming Zero Emissions and Resilient Buildings (ZERB) Accelerator. Representatives from national and subnational governments, the private sector and the NGOs will share insights from the implementation of multilevel governance approaches and local climate solutions and explore challenges, opportunities and recommendations on how to scale these initiatives. Drawing on these insights, opportunities for concrete support activities targeting subnational jurisdictions in terms of policy and technical support, finance mobilisation, as well as data and monitoring will be discussed among speakers, taking inputs from the audience.
