Description
Present the country’s leadership in the generation of specific actions, and from one of the main sectors of the economy, to achieve the country’s climate goals against carbon neutrality, and understanding that the construction sector has a great capacity to impact different sectors and generate co-benefits in terms of equity and resilience, when the entire value chain is included and understood. The Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development recently launched the National Net Zero Carbon Building Roadmap, within the framework of the Net Zero Carbon Building Accelerator project, financed by the GEF, whose global implementer is the WRI and the local implementer is the Consejo Colombian Sustainable Construction (CCCS).
This instrument, led by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development from the Climate Change Directorate and the Sectorial and Urban Environmental Affairs Directorate, has had the participation of the Ministry of Housing, City and Territory, the Ministry of Energy, the National Planning Department, Camacol Nacional, the Colombian Council for Sustainable Construction, the City of Bogotá and the City of Cali within their advisory committee and with 380 experts from the construction value chain (integrating private companies, the financial sector, the public sector, NGOs and academia) that make up the group of experts.
The Roadmap constitutes the framework of reference towards carbon-neutrality of the building sector in the country, establishing specific short-term (2030), medium-term (2040) and long-term (2050) goals, as well as transformative actions aimed at all the building sector chain. As part of the implementation of this roadmap, specific action plans were developed for the cities of Bogotá and Cali, as pilot cities for the project.
The event aims to present Colombia’s Net Zero National Building Roadmap, with which the country assumes leadership in terms of the decarbonization of buildings in Latin America and the world. The instrument and progress in implementation will be presented in Bogotá and Cali, which are the two pilot cities in Colombia. With the participation of the World Green Building Council, the World Resources Institute and the Colombian Council for Sustainable Construction, and together with the participants in the event, the opportunities generated by carbon-neutrality in buildings will be identified to achieve the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. greenhouse gases in different sectors, and a discussion will be addressed on the main barriers that must be solved in order to accelerate and scale this type of solutions to different cities in Colombia and the region.
