The Colombia Green Building Council (Colombia GBC) is an NGO created in 2008 that works to promote better practices of sustainable urbanism and construction in Colombia. It leads a network of 185 organizations from the building sector (including manufacturers of construction products and materials, builders, educational and research institutions, environmental and non-profit organizations, architects and consultants, among others). Since it was founded, Colombia GBC has been working on mobilizing the market and strengthening capacity for design and construction of high-performance buildings in the country.
Colombia GBC seeks to create prosperous, environmentally responsible, inclusive and healthy environments for all. The institution strengthens private sector leadership and technical knowledge; advocates for enhanced public policies; and delivers a relevant portfolio of high impact programs, like the housing certification CASA Colombia, LEED Program for Colombia in partnership with GBCI, and the Building Efficiency Accelerator (BEA) Program, in collaboration with the World Resources Institute (WRI) and P4G.
Colombia GBC connects the national market with trends and global innovations relevant to the local context and offers specialized training and technical services. The institution has an important international recognition for its credibility and contribution to the promotion of best practices in the built environment in Colombia and the region. It supports the formulation and implementation of public policies as well the use of incentives to sustainable building. One of its main areas of work has been to act as a technical advisor to the national and the local governments to implement public policy that can help.
ACTIVITY RELATED TO LOW GHG AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND RESILIENT BUILDINGS
As a national Green Building Council that had led the growth of sustainable construction in the country for twelve years and that connects the goals and initiatives of the private sector, the public sector, civil society and academia, we are interested in contributing to a global initiative that produces very relevant information, knowledge and collaborations for our movement. We can offer our knowledge of the Colombian context and experience and bring all the lessons learned and opportunities for collaboration of this global network to our country through our work in public policy, capacity building and education, awareness building and partnership promotion. We also have a very strong technical team that can participate and support specific reports and research projects that is carried our globally or for our region.
