MAIN GOALS - GENERAL ACTIVITIES - FIELD OF EXPERTISES
The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs & Housing (MoMRAH) is responsible for urban planning and housing development across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. MoMRAH spearheads efforts to enhance city livability, develop municipal and rural areas, and manage services for environmental cleanliness.
In collaboration with key stakeholders in the Kingdom, MoMRAH regulates the building and construction sector through the Saudi Building Code Committee. MoMRAH is also the governmental entity responsible for ensuring adherence to Building Code, through construction permits and certificates of completion.
Through its various initiatives, MoMRAH contributes to the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals for smart, sustainable urban development and increased livability.
ACTIVITY RELATED TO LOW GHG AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND RESILIENT BUILDINGS
The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing rolls-out its climate actions in the buildings and construction sector across three key pillars:
- The Modern Construction Initiative aims to shift the construction industry towardsmodern, sustainable, and efficient practices. This initiative scouts innovative construction technologies and materials, allowing for decarbonization of built area and reduction in energy requirements. The Modern Construction Initiative works hand-in-hand with key stakeholders to stimulate supply and adoption of Modern and Future Methods of Construction in KSA.
- The Mostadam program fosters sustainable housing and urban planning to enhance public health and overall environmental quality. The program evaluates and certifies residential and commercial buildings and communities for their adherence to sustainability standards. The program targets both current and future developments.
- The Saudi Green Building Code is integral part of the overall Saudi Building Code and sets forth guidelines and standards for energy and water efficiency, resource conservation, and indoor environmental quality, ensuring that buildings have a lesser impact on the environment.
