At a time when half the world’s population is living under some form of restriction of movement to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we are reminded of how important our homes are to our well-being. Inequalities in access to adequate housing have increased vulnerability. At the same time, building crafts activities are amongst the most impacted as teleworking is simply not an option and certain supplies have become hard to obtain. New construction and retrofits are at a record low.
Almost a year after the publication of our article "COVID-19 - Building Back Better", the situation remains unchanged in many parts of the world. The crisis has had a severe impact on the building sector, but it has also shown that the time has come to wake up the sleeping giant and achieve a zero emission, efficient and resilient buildings and construction sector. Faced with this unprecedented situation, many GlobalABC members have shared documents to explore the opportunities offered by the pandemic to build back better and to highlight the future we want for the buildings and construction sector in the post-COVID-19 era.
