MAIN GOALS - GENERAL ACTIVITIES - FIELD OF EXPERTISES
Green Building Council Nigeria is a membership-based nongovernmental organization established to address the built environment’s role in climate change, environmental pollution, and natural resource depletion. Our mission is “To lead the transformation of Nigeria’s built environment to create buildings and communities that are environmentally, socially and economically sustainable through engagement and partnerships with all green building stakeholders.” GBCN influences and leads transformational change, promoting greater uptake of green building, thereby helping Nigeria address local and global environmental challenges through increase in the country's stock of energy and resource efficient buildings. Our strategy for achieving this is built on four pillars: Advocacy, Education, Standards and Certification
ACTIVITY RELATED TO LOW GHG AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND RESILIENT BUILDINGS
GBCN has organized several events on building energy efficiency and green building standards. These include a 4-hour training course, "Energy Efficient Building Design in Practice," held in June 2022, and an introduction to the Green Star SA certification system in February 2023. A 2-day training course, "Whole Life Carbon Assessment for Buildings," has been developed and will be piloted in August 2023. GBCN collaborated with other African GBCs to develop the World GBC Africa Manifesto for Sustainable Cities and the Built Environment, which was launched in November 2022. The organization's president was also part of the task force that developed the World GBC's Global Policy Principles, launched in April 2023. GBCN is currently developing a 3-day sustainability training course for the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, scheduled for June 2023. The organization is also working to develop a national built environment carbon database and a local green building certification tool.
