MAIN GOALS - GENERAL ACTIVITIES - FIELD OF EXPERTISES

The Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE) was established in 2008 as a not-for-profit platform bringing together private sector actors, energy service companies, and policymakers to promote energy efficiency in India. Its core goal is to foster a culture of energy efficiency by positioning it as a “first fuel” and by supporting the development of a robust energy services market. To achieve this, AEEE engages in a range of activities including policy support and implementation, business enablement, and the production of knowledge resources such as research and technical insights. Its field of expertise lies in energy efficiency policy, market transformation, and capacity-building initiatives, supported through collaborations with international organizations, foundations, and industry stakeholders.

AEEE promotes decarbonization and sustainability in the building and construction sector in the following ways:

  • • Support the development of next-generation building codes, embedding both energy efficiency and embodied-carbon metrics.
  • • Promote state-level adoption of national codes and standards.
  • • Help finance and deploy retrofits for existing buildings via innovative business models.
  • • Support mandatory energy-performance disclosure, benchmarking, and validation systems.
  • • Push for wider use of low-embodied-carbon materials and circular building economies.
  • • Provide capacity building and stakeholder coordination across materials, construction, finance, and government.
  • • Promote innovations and facilitate skill building for youth through the World’s largest collegiate challenge for net zero building design  - SDI.

ACTIVITY RELATED TO LOW GHG AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND RESILIENT BUILDINGS

AEEE’s work directly contributes to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and lowering energy consumption by advancing energy-efficient practices across sectors, including the built environment. Through policy advocacy, technical guidance, and awareness-building, the organization promotes solutions that enhance energy performance in buildings and infrastructure. Its initiatives support the adoption of efficient technologies, improved design standards, and sustainable operational practices, all of which contribute to more resilient and low-carbon buildings. By enabling both market development and policy alignment, AEEE plays a key role in driving the transition toward energy-efficient and climate-resilient construction systems.
