MAIN GOALS - GENERAL ACTIVITIES - FIELD OF EXPERTISES

CSTB is a stakeholder group following the work of the European Commission on the common framework of performance indicators. CSTB's mission is to guarantee the quality and security of buildings, and to promote market innovation. CSTB brings together multidisciplinary competencies for developing and sharing key scientific knowledge and technologies. CSTB has four key activities: Research and expertise; evaluation; certification; and knowledge dissemination. Its field of expertise include construction products, and optimal integration of buildings in their urban environment. Ongoing work focuses on research of green buildings, eco-neighborhoods, performance indicators, and cost optimal renovation of existing buildings. CSTB supports defining new reference framework for voluntary assessments of green buildings, in particular carbon indicators. The organization works with French ministries on the development of environmental labels for buildings (including carbon, energy, waste, and water indicators). It is piloting a project on a harmonized energy performance certificate across Europe for non-residential buildings (the VCS project).
