ACTIVITY RELATED TO LOW GHG AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND RESILIENT BUILDINGS

Energy/climate/buildings-related activities: 1) green building program: The system was introduced in June 2002 with the aim of creating a market where environment-friendly and high-quality buildings are highly evaluated. It is required for those buildings that will be newly built or extended and whose total floor area exceeds 5,000 square meters to submit their building environment plans. Moreover, those buildings that will be newly built or extended and whose total floor area exceeds 2,000 square meters may submit their building environment plans on a voluntary basis 2) Cap and Trade : Covered facilities in the Tokyo Cap-andTrade Program are required to reduce energy-related CO2 emissions — for example, 8% reductions are required for business facilities such as office buildings, and 6% for industrial facilities such as factories—during a five-year compliance period from fiscal year 2010 through 2014.During the second period from fiscal year 2015 through 2019, the reduction obligations increase to 17% for businesses and 15% for industrial facilities.
