The “Conference of the Parties” (COP) is the global decision-making body of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The 198 countries meet every year to review progress and decide on the path forward.
From 30 November – 12 December 2023, the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) will convene in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. COP28 comes at a decisive moment for international climate action. It will mark the conclusion of the first global stocktake (GST), the main mechanism through which progress under the Paris Agreement is assessed. This will help align the efforts on climate action, including measures that need to be put in place to bridge the gaps in progress.
GlobalABC's engagement at COP28 will focus on the following areas:
- Ensuring that buildings are at the forefront of the discussions and climate agenda, including by hosting a Buildings Pavilion and engaging in high-level buildings-related events
- Supporting the official launch of the Buildings Breakthrough
- Increasing momentum and visibility for the Buildings and Climate Global Forum
COP28 Buildings Pavilion
The GlobalABC will host a Buildings Pavilion at COP28. Following the success at previous COPs, the Buildings Pavilion at COP28 will once again be a space for businesses and policymakers to interact, a meeting place for the buildings and construction community, and a space to showcase solutions through events, presentations, exhibitions, etc. The COP28 Buildings Pavilion aims to be a centre of gravity for the buildings and construction sector to take stock of progress made since COP21 and showcase buildings as solutions for climate action. The Buildings Pavilion will unite all stakeholders along the built environment value chain as one voice towards achieving building decarbonization and resilience.
